Skin Rejuvenation with Microneedling
Microneedling encourages skin rejuvenation by creating intentional trauma to the skin with very fine needles. This injury to the skin signals to the body to generate new collagen and skin tissue, resulting in smoother, firmer, more toned skin.
Microneedling is mostly used on the face and may treat various scars, wrinkles, and large pores. It is most effective when done in a series. A numbing cream will be applied prior to the procedure to minimize any discomfort. After the treatment there will be some initial redness in the treatment area, which can last anywhere from 2-4 days. Some patients heal in as little as 24 hours.
Microneedling can be done with or without the addition of Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP), when done together this treatment is often called “the vampire facial.” This facial can improve a variety of skin concerns including fine lines, sun damage, deeper wrinkles and acne scarring.
Platelet-Rich-Plasma-Therapy (PRP) promotes collagen production, regenerates tissue and tightens skin. Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells. To harvest the platelets, we will begin by drawing a small amount of blood. The blood is then placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. Next the PRP is used on specific areas of the skin.
After the treatment there will be some initial redness in the treatment area, which can last anywhere from 2-4 days. Some patients heal in as little as 24 hours.
