Laser Resurfacing
Lasers can be effective in resurfacing the skin to improve texture, tone, scars, pores and pigmentation. Lasers fall into one of two categories – ablative and non-ablative. Based on your concern and goals, your doctor will recommend the best treatment protocol.
Ablative lasers such as CO2 are more invasive, but may produce more dramatic clinical results. They work by applying an intense wavelength of light to remove the outer layers of the skin. This process causes the skin to heal and restructure, and increases collagen production, improving skin laxity. Ablative lasers present a longer recovery and a higher degree of risk than non-ablative lasers. Most patients require 2-4 weeks of recovery time. At SkinMed Institute we are proud to offer CO2RE (Candela) for our patient’s CO2 laser needs.
Non-ablative lasers: For patients looking for less downtime, non-ablative resurfacing can be achieved with the Fraxel® Dual (1550/1927). Patients typically require 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Depending on your clinical condition, your provider will hand select treatment parameters to directly target and improve your skin condition. Tailored treatments using non-ablative lasers can produce significant and sometimes dramatic clinical results with overall less downtime.
