Hair Restoration with PRP
For patients experiencing hair loss, restoration with Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) can be an effective solution.
An emerging treatment that can help regrow lost hair, with little pain and virtually no side effects. Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells – they help promote hair growth by prolonging the growing phase of the hair cycle.
The in-office procedure takes about 30-45 mins and begins with a small blood draw (usually from the arm). The blood is then placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. Next the PRP is injected into the scalp where the hair loss has occurred.
A series of monthly treatments is recommended for 3 months then every 3 months for a total of 1 year. After the year the treatment schedule will vary from patient to patient and specific details of your treatment schedule will be decided by you and your provider.
The injection schedule will depend on your genetics, pattern and amount of hair loss, age and hormones.
